Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep is a coeducational, Catholic, college preparatory school and a member of the Cristo Rey Network that follows the work-study model of education.

History

The school is located in the Pleasant Grove area of Southeast Dallas at 1064 N. St. Augustine, the former site of St. Augustine Catholic School. Within a 5-mile radius of the school, 244,600 people reside of whom 64.5% are Hispanic and 39.5% African American, with 55% of families earning $34,000 or less per year.[1] Along with 29 other schools in the Cristo Rey Network across the United States, it caters to students from families of slender means who give promise of making the most of their educational opportunity. Students work five days a month at entry-level jobs in businesses around Dallas; 35 companies signed in to employ the first freshman class in 2015.[2] The school is endorsed by the School Sisters of Notre Dame who since their founding by Blessed Theresa Gerhardinger in the early 19th century have been involved in providing education to underserved populations.[3]
