Compound Media (formerly known as The Anthony Cumia Network) is a subscription-based on-demand platform that streams several live American Internet talk shows. It launched in August 2014 by radio personality Anthony Cumia after his firing from SiriusXM radio, and currently houses The Anthony Cumia Show, The Gavin McInnes Show, NYC Crime Report with Pat Dixon, The East Side Dave Show, Red Bar Radio, In Hot Water and Safe Space.

Background

On July 3, 2014, Anthony Cumia was fired by SiriusXM, after making a series of tweets following an alleged off-air incident with a black woman on the street. Cumia tweeted that he was punched by the woman while attempting to take a picture in Times Square. The tweets were described by Sirius XM as "racially-charged and hate-filled".[1] Cumia stated on the Saturday, July 12 episode of Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld that he was not going to apologize for the incident.[2]

At the time of Cumia's firing SiriusXM made no comment as to Hughes' possible future with the company at that time. Cumia gave his blessing for the Sirius XM show to continue without him, acknowledging Hughes and Norton's obligation to fulfill their contract with SiriusXM.[3] A relaunched Opie with Jim Norton Show resumed on July 14, 2014 with Hughes and Norton discussing the incident and noting that "The Opie and Anthony Channel" was renamed "Sirius XM Talk", along with various other alterations by the company in light of the firing.[4] In October 2014, Hughes and Norton signed a new contract to continue the SiriusXM show,[5] which appears on the rebranded "Opie Radio" Channel.

Cumia announced on July 8, 2014, that he would launch a new Internet-based podcast as "The Anthony Cumia Show," which began airing in August 2014.[3] In June 2015 The Anthony Cumia Network was launched, with the first additional shows, The Legion of Skanks and The Gavin McInnes Show. In May 2016, the network officially changed its named to Compound Media.[6]

Network expansion

On December 30, 2014, Jokeland hosted by Jackie Martling, Black from the Compound hosted by Mike Brown and Brandon Collins, and The Bobo Show hosted by Daniel Kurlan, were tested as potential shows to be added to the network.[7] On March 11, 2015, Black from the Compound, was again broadcast live after The Anthony Cumia Show.[8] On May 2, 2016 Mike Brown and Brandon Collins filled in for Cumia.[9]
