Cobie Legrange

Cobie Legrange (born 1942) is a South African professional golfer who, as well as being a regular winner on the South African tour, enjoyed several victories on the British and Australian circuits in the 1960s.

Legrange was born in Boksburg.

Legrange won the Dunlop Masters title in 1964 and 1969. He won the Pringle of Scotland Tournament in 1965. In 1969, he recovered from a disastrous 79 in the opening round of The Open Championship for his best finish of 11th, actually outscoring the rest of the field over the last three rounds.

Soon afterward, however, Legrange suffered a severe loss of confidence in his backswing, and would often refuse to complete a shot, stepping away from the ball even after taking the clubhead away from the ball. Naturally, his form tailed off, and he would win only two minor events in South Africa in the 1970s.
