Chrynów massacre

It took place on Sunday, July 11, 1943, when units of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and deserters from Ukrainian Auxiliary Police, supported by local Ukrainian peasants, surrounded Poles who had gathered for a ceremony at a local Roman-Catholic church. The parish priest Jan Kotwicki was shot together with a group of women, when attempting to escape through the vestry. During the attack on the village Ukrainians murdered c. 150 Poles. A week after this events all buildings in the villlage and church were burned down.[1]
