Christow
Christow is a village, parish and former manor located on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, Devon, England. It is situated on a side of the Teign Valley, 5 miles from the small town of Chudleigh and 8 miles from Exeter. The village population is about 850 and increasing. Christow is the principal population centre for the electoral ward called Teign Valley. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 2,668.[1]
Amenities
Within the village there is a shop, a post office, a pub (The Artichoke), a small industrial estate (Gidley's Meadow), a doctor's surgery and a Community Hall. At the Community Hall there are three tennis courts and a skate park. There is also a play park in the village with climbing frames, swings, slides, a zip wire and a basketball court.
Railway station
The village was served by Christow railway station until it was closed in 1961.
Notable former residents
- Admiral Edward Pellew 1st Viscount Exmouth was buried in St James' church in 1833.
- Lady Emma Mary Halsted, wife of Admiral Sir Lawrence Halsted & daughter of Admiral Edward Pellew, was also buried at Christow 11 Mar 1835.
- Arthur Marshall, who lived here in later life, and who fictionalised it as "Appleton".

Historic estates
Canonteign
Within the parish is situated the historic tything of Canonteign, now containing two mansions, one formerly the late-Tudor residence of the Davie family, now in the form of a restored farmhouse; the other a white neo-classical house built by Captain Pownoll Pellew, later 2nd Viscount Exmouth (1786–1833).[2]
