Christopher Gaffney

Christopher "Chris" Gaffney is a British archaeological geophysicist who formerly worked on Time Team, the Channel 4 archaeological television series.

Gaffney studied for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Bradford. He is the brother of archaeologist Vince Gaffney.

In 1986, Gaffney and John Gater set up Geophysical Surveys of Bradford (GSB Prospection), an independent consultancy in geophysics for archaeology.

As well as writing articles for publication in several journals, Gaffney has authored several books. With John Gater, Gaffney co-authored the book Revealing the Buried Past: Geophysics for Archaeologists[1] and along with Schmidt and Aspinall, Gaffney authored Magnetometry for Archaeologists.[2]

In the summer of 2007, Gaffney was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Bradford for "popularising archaeological geophysics via Time Team and other media opportunities".[3]

In October 2007, Gaffney was employed as a lecturer in Archaeological Geophysics at the University of Bradford, and now teaches at the institution.

Gaffney is also currently the editor of the Journal of Archaeological Prospection[4] and the chairman of the International Society for Archaeological Prospection.[5]
