Christopher Buchtmann (born 25 April 1992) is a German footballer who plays as a left winger for FC St. Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga.[1][2]

Club career

Buchtmann made many transfer moves between English and German youth clubs. He started his career at Hannover 96 before moving to Borussia Dortmund when he was thirteen. Bunchtmann moved to England by joining Liverpool youth academy.[3] Then in February 2010, Bunchtman left Liverpool on an undisclosed fee to join Fulham, where he will be at the development squad after signing an 18-month contract.[4]

However after three months at the club, Buchtmann left Fulham, again, to return to Germany by joining 1. FC Köln.[5] After two years playing at 1. FC Köln II, Buchtmann made his debut for the relegated club, coming on as a substitute for Sławomir Peszko in the 68th minute, as Köln lost, 4–1 against Freiburg. Buchtmann added another in the last game of the season, in a 4–1 loss against Bayern Munich.

After being told by the manager that he would play on the reserve squad once more,[6] Bunchtmann left Köln to join FC St. Pauli after his contract with Koln was terminated.[7] In January, Bunchtmann signed a new contract with the club, which will keep him until 2015 and afterwards; he made fifteen appearance for the club.[8] The 2013–14 season was a breakthrough for him, as he established himself in the first team and later in late January, Buchtmann signed a new contract with the club, which will keep him until 2016.[9]

International career

Buchtmann represents the German national team, playing under 15, under 16, under 17, under 18, under 19 and under 20. Buchtmann was captain for the national team in the squad that lead Germany winning the UEFA European Under-17 Championship. As a result of his performance, Buchtmann was named by the UEFA as one of the most promising stars in the future.[10]
