Chloe Rose (born October 25, 1994) is a Canadian actress, most commonly known for playing Katie Matlin in the long-running TV series Degrassi: The Next Generation. She has also appeared in feature films, most notably Anita Doron's The Lesser Blessed (2012) and Bruce McDonald's Hellions (2015), and currently stars in the popular web series Teenagers (2014–present).[1]

Early life

Rose was born and raised in Toronto and lived in the same neighbourhood as award-winning Canadian film director Bruce McDonald, with whom she would later work with on Hellions (2015).[2] She babysat his children as a teenager.[3] Rose studied at the Etobicoke School of the Arts alongside fellow Degrassi star Aislinn Paul.[2]

Career

Rose first attracted attention for her role as Katie Matlin in Degrassi: The Next Generation. She was cast in 2011, with no previous acting experience.[4] She left the show in 2013, after three seasons. Following her departure, Rose went on to play a variety of guest roles in several hit TV series, including Rookie Blue (2012–14), Lost Girl (2013), Killjoys (2015) and Dark Matter (2015).

Rose has also made the transition into feature film work, starring in a string of indie films, most notably The Lesser Blessed, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013,[5] and the Bruce McDonald horror film Hellions, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015.[3][6] During the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, where Rose's film Hellions was screening, Indiewire named her as one of the "9 Up-and-Coming Actors to Watch For."[1]

When interviewed about what inspired her to pursue a career in acting, Rose said:

Watching Amelie as a young girl made me fall in love with the romantic and mystical world of film. I’m not sure if that exactly inspired me to become an actor, but it was a start.[7]

Rose currently stars in the popular web series Teenagers as the central female protagonist, Bree.[8][9] For her role in Teenagers, Rose has been nominated for awards by the International Academy of Web Television,[10] the Los Angeles Web Series Festival,[11] the Indie Series Awards,[12] and the Vancouver Web Series Festival.[13]

In 2016, Rose starred alongside Catherine Keener in the film Unless, which is slated to premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.[14][15][16] She has also appeared in the independent films LAN[17] and People Hold On,[18] which was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in 2015.[19]

She also starred in the indie thriller Pyewacket, alongside Laurie Holden and Nicole Muñoz.
