Cheryl L. Waite

Judge Cheryl L. Waite is one of four judges elected to the Ohio Seventh District Court of Appeals. She was first elected to the court in 1996, and re-elected to that bench in 2002 and 2008. She is currently running for her fourth term.[1] She served as presiding judge of this court from 2003-2005 and 2011-2013.[2] She was the first woman elected to serve on the Seventh District Court of Appeals.[3]

Born in 1959, she received her B.A. from Youngstown State University in 1982, and her J.D. law degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1985.

Judge Waite was an Assistant Law Director for the City of Youngstown, Ohio in 1985, and served as the City's acting Risk Manager from 1991 through 1996. She was admitted to practice in the Federal Court of Appeals in 1986 and the United States Supreme Court in 1992.

She served as the Court of Appeals representative on the Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission from 2000-2004. In 2014 she began serving as the secretary/treasurer of the Ohio Courts of Appeals Judges Association.[4]

She has served as President on the Board of Trustees of the YWCA of Youngstown, President of the Board of Directors of Gateways Industries, Inc., and served for 8 years on the board of Gateways to Better Living, Inc.
