Chengdu Foreign Languages School (Simplified Chinese: 成都外国语学校,成外, pinyin: Chéngdū Wài Guó Yǔ Xué Xiào, Chéng Wài), founded in 1989 with the approval of the Education Department of Sichuan Province and sponsored by Sichuan DeRui Development Company Ltd, is the first middle school to concentrate on foreign language learning. CFLS ranks among the top schools locally and nationally. It is one of 16 foreign languages schools approved by the State Education Ministry to recommend students to be exempt from the Chinese National College Entrance Examination (Gao Kao). Due to its well-recognized academic achievements and its graduates’ impressive performance, CFLS has been given multiple awards and titles: the national security education advanced unit, the Experimental School of Curriculum Reform, the Provincial-level Exemplary School of School Ethos, the Sichuan Province Advanced Group of Private Education, the Experimental School of Mental Health Education, the Experimental School of Physical Education, and the Experimental School of Campus Culture. Moreover, CFLS is the only private school of the 6 local schools to be named with the title “Experimental School of Nurturing Top-notch and Creative Talents” in Sichuan Province.

Education

Chengdu Foreign Languages School (CFLS) specializes in foreign languages teaching. It offers English, French, Japanese and German classes for students to choose. CFLS focuses more on comprehensive English ability, making the students outstanding in Oral English and English Listening. Compared with students from other schools where only English Grammar is emphasized, students from CFLS often have more confidence in using English with excellence.

However, Chengdu Foreign Languages School offers 8 English lessons a week while 5 is the average number for other schools. This results in less class hour for other subjects like Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc. Especially for Senior High, students have to take MUCH MORE extra lessons organized by the school after they enter Senior 3 to catch up (usually in Saturdays). Although such action is clearly not legitimate, no signs are showing that any officials are or will be investigating this.

As for Olympiad trainings, CFLS offers excellent Chinese Physics Olympiad (CPHO) courses. Maths Olympiad is just so-so. The rest, especially Olympiad in Informatics, are worse than terrible.

CFLS is also suffering from a crisis these days. More and more teachers tend to leave this school because the school isn't offering enough salary for the them to make a living. In 2016, it is confirmed that minor top-class teachers were leaving for Guangyuan Tianli International School. [1] Sadly, up till now, we are not hearing any news about pay rise.
