Checkin' Out the Ghosts is the twelfth studio album by Kim Carnes, released in Japan only (1991) (see 1991 in music).

Two years later, in 1993, the song "Gypsy Honeymoon" would be re-recorded and released as a single in Europe only. The track would be included on and become the title of an internationally released hits compilation, Gypsy Honeymoon: The Best of Kim Carnes.

The album also contains a re-recording of the track "Hangin' On by a Thread (A Sad Affair of the Heart)", which was originally recorded on Carnes' album Café Racers. "Independent Girl" was released as a 3" CD single (in Japan only) with a further song "Mutual Attraction" as the 'b' side on TEDP-18.^[1]
