Division of International Programs

The Central University of Nicaragua (UCN), and its Division of International Programs, is a multidisciplinary academic institution, humanist, ethical, efficient and competitive; promoting the intercultural exchange between nations and cultures, the defense of the environment, science, technology, democracy, freedom and social justice. The quality and competitiveness of UCN graduate professionals, contribute to the economic, social and cultural development.

The idea of the university was born of a group of academics with ample experience in the education field who took the step to found the UCN, retaking the trajectory of the old Nicaraguan Central University that in the 1970s opened its classrooms to receive students who later were important personalities in the political, academic and social fabric of the country. The new and restructured university has embarked on a campaign of international development, making agreements with universities [7] in different parts of the world simultaneously to have official representatives in countries[8] and regions, for instance in the United States of America, Mexico, Bolivia, Central America, Asia, Africa and Europe. The Division of International Programs is directed by professionals with international exposure who had been engaged in multinational projects with several departments and organizations within the United Nations. Some of them managed transnational companies; others are members and advisers of NGOs. All this translates into an endorsement[9] of a global vision of the university’s activities [10] and curricula. UCN PI members have worked with numerous programs and departments of the United Nations.

The recent history of the UCN is characterized by collaborations with universities in different parts of the world. On 22 March 2012 the UCN signed in Managua the agreement: "International Confederation of Higher Education" with the following universities: United Mahatma Gandhi University in India, Universidad de Cundinamarca in Colombia, Universidad de la Salle in Costa Rica, 3G University in the UAE, Fundación Universitaria Samuel Hahnemann in Colombia and Universidad Azteca in Mexico.
