Founding

Following the founding of the Central European University by George Soros, the Central European University Press was established in 1993.

Publisher Frances Pinter established the Central European University Press during her time as head of Soros' Open Society Institute's international publishing programme.

Publishing Programme

Its publishing programme focuses on issues of Central and Eastern Europe, the past and present history, society, culture and economy of the countries of the former Soviet Union and its neighbours. The subject area of CEU Press includes the political philosophy and practices of open society, history, legal studies, nationalism, sociology, human rights, conflict resolution, open media, gender studies, Jewish studies, economics, medieval studies, literature, and international relations.
