Camila Alves[2] (born January 28, 1982)[3] is a Brazilian-American[4] model and designer.[2] She is married to American actor Matthew McConaughey.

Early life

Camila Alves was born in Brazil and raised there until the age of fifteen. Her mother is an artist and designer, and her father, a farmer. At fifteen, Alves traveled to Los Angeles to visit her aunt, and decided to stay. After working for four years as a house-cleaner and waitress, she became fluent in English and decided to make the United States her home.[5]

Career

At the age of 19, Alves moved to New York to pursue a career as a fashion model.[6] Alves and her mother design the Muxo line of handbags,[7] developing their design after experimenting for three years with styles and designs.[8] In 2010, Alves hosted the Bravo network's third season of its reality television show Shear Genius.[9]

In April 2012, Alves was signed on as the new face for Macy's clothing line "I.N.C. International Concepts".[10] In January 2016, Alves launched a lifestyle website, Women of Today, that serves as a hub for her social media, live stream video program Camila's Code, and blog posts on food, family, health, fashion, beauty and crafts.[11] Alves was a co-founder of the organic frozen baby food company Yummy Spoonfuls, which launched its product line for babies and toddlers in June 2016 in Target's frozen food section.[12]

She is the co-host of the Food Network's 'Kids BBQ Championship,' which started airing May 2016.

Personal life

Alves met American actor Matthew McConaughey in 2007.[13] The couple became engaged on Christmas Day 2011,[14] and were married on June 9, 2012 in Austin, Texas, where they reside.[2] They have three children: son Levi (born July 7, 2008),[15] daughter Vida (born January 3, 2010)[16] and son Livingston (born December 28, 2012).[17] On August 4, 2015, Alves became a U.S. citizen, in the same naturalization ceremony as British actress Emily Blunt.[18][19]
