C. T. Ravi is a three time Legislator from Chikkamagaluru Constituency( No. 125) of Karnataka State. He unsuccessfully contested against Sagir Ahmed of Congress in 1999 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. He lost by a very narrow margin of just 982 votes. Undeterred by his defeat, C.T Ravi took this as a challenge and toured Chikkamagaluru Constituency extensively, built party base in the district, fought for Hindus and also Dattapeeetha, which gave him a major break and his popularity shot up.

In the 2004 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections, Sagir Ahmed lost to C. T. Ravi by a margin of more than 25,000 Votes, thus marking C. T. Ravi's maiden entry to Karnataka Legislature. After this he has never seen back.

C. T. Ravi has held many posts in BJP Karnataka Unit. he was the BJP Karnataka Yuva Morcha(the party Youth Wing) President and went on to become the State General secretary of the party. He also represented the party in Press Meets as its Spokesperson and is known for his oratory and speaking skills. He is the Youth face of the Bharathiya Janatha Party in Karnataka.

He is credited with building the party not only in Chikkamagaluru Taluk, but also the whole of district and also the state. He ensured BJP comes to power in Chikkamagaluru City Municipal Council and other local bodies.

When Karnataka Legislative Assembly was dissolved in 2007 and Karnataka went to polls in April–May 2008, he was again fielded by BJP from Chikkamagaluru Constituency, but this time against K. B. Mallikarjuna, a Lingayat, who form a considerable Majority in Chikkamgaluru constituency. His winning stride continued, he again won with a thumping majority. the voters of his constituency blessed him for his untiring efforts to develop the constituency. he was largely tipped to make it into B. S. Yediyurappa's constituency, but the party wanted him to be in the organisation and strengthen the party. When D. V. Sadananda Gowda's term as State BJP President ended in 2009, he was the first choice among party rank and files, but he refused the offer making way for seniors in the party.

At, the fag end of BJP's tenure, he was inducted into the cabinet and was given the important Higher Education Ministry and he made sure he din't let the Party bosses, the electorate and his supporters down.

He as a Minister was given the In-charge of Dakshin Kannada, but he also made sure Chikkamagaluru was not left out. He got a New Government Engineering College and Medical College sanctioned for Chikkamagaluru district, along with development projects totalling more than Rs. 800 crores. He has been appointed by Rajnath Singh as Special Invitee to BJP National Executive.

C. T. Ravi recently appeared for PhD Entrance Exam conducted by Karnataka State Open University and also cleared the first round of the test.

In the recent concluded Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections, C. T. Ravi won from Chikkamagaluru Constituency with a margin of 10,000+ Votes despite an anti-BJP wave across the state.[1][2]
