Alexander Ridha (born 22 August 1982), better known by his stage name Boys Noize, is a German electronic music producer and DJ.[1] It is similar to the name of Ridha's label, Boysnoize Records, which he established in 2005.[1] Ridha has remixed a number of other artist's work, including Snoop Dogg and Depeche Mode.[2]

Biography

Ridha started producing and DJing from an early age, including a period in which he supported Felix Da Housecat and DJ Hell under the alias of Kid Alex.[3] Today, Ridha himself is known as one of the most valuable electronic artists, awarded with the Independent Music Award in 2010 as well as 3 years in a row as Best Electronic Artist on Beatport. His music is known to merge various styles and has a unique and innovative sound, with influences of hip-hop and disco roots as well as heavy noise and electro house sounds. His DJ sets are equally praised and have gained worldwide recognition for the mixing and visuals.[4]

Ridha released his early work on labels such as International Deejay Gigolos Records, Kitsuné Music and Turbo Recordings. In order to retain full artistic freedom however, he established his imprint Boysnoize Records in 2005. Both of his LPs "OI OI OI" and its successor "POWER" were recorded under this label, as well as the singles "Don't Believe The Hype", "&Down" and "Jeffer" as well as "Transmission".

He remixed David Lynch, N.E.R.D, Depeche Mode, Snoop Dogg, Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers amongst many other well-known artists and became a producer of note, having worked with Kelis, UK rapper Kano, The Black Eyed Peas, and the South Korean band BIGBANG. Chilly Gonzales' "Ivory Tower" is his first fully produced and co-written album, released in August 2010. He has further collaborated with Erol Alkan: the first record "Death Suite" / "Waves" was released on Ridhas imprint BNR, followed by "Lemonade" / "Avalanche", which came out on Erol's label Phantasy Sound. Ridha is currently working on his forthcoming Spank Rock album, and is also collaborating with the New York band Scissor Sisters. His recent release of original Boys Noize tracks in September 2010 celebrated the 50th release on Boysnoize Records as well as the launch of the first sublabel BNR TRAX, which presented its first release in October 2010.[5] Ridha announced through Facebook that his third studio album, entitled Out of the Black, would be released on 2 October 2012. In a recent interview, Ridha also stated that his new album features two collaborations with Snoop Dogg.[6]

For the launch of his third album Out of the Black in 2012, Ridha hired directors Patrick Jean & Sebastien Loghman for Boys Noize's two first official music videos Ich R U[7] and What You Want.

In 2012, Boys Noize formed a side project with Skrillex called Dog Blood which is in the Electro genre. Dog Blood performed at the 2013 Miami Ultra Music Festival.

In 2014, he did the music composition for a German movie named Who Am I – No System Is Safe. In 2014, Ridha collaborated with Chilly Gonzales to form Octave Minds, and released a debut album under the same name, with track premieres on Pitchfork, Dazed & Confused and Fader. Ridha celebrated the 100th release of Boysnoize Records with electronic dance heavyweights The Chemical Brothers & Justice remixing BOYS NOIZE's "XTC" & "ICH R U," and released his BOYS NOIZE "Go Hard" EP, a #1 album release on Beatport. 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of Boysnoize Records, which will be celebrated by a global tour of specially curated Boysnoize Records shows. In August 2015 it was announced that Ridha had collaborated with Jean-Michel Jarre on the track "The Time Machine" from the album Electronica.[8] Ridha is currently working on material for a new album release in the coming year.[9]
