Bobby Murphy (born July 19, 1988) is an American Internet entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of the mobile app Snapchat, which he created with Evan Spiegel and Reggie Brown while they were students at Stanford University. He is also CTO of Snap Inc.

Early life

Robert Cornelius Murphy, popularly known as Bobby Murphy was born on July 19, 1988.[2] Murphy's mother Rosie L. Go-Murphy is a Filipino, state government employee, also has Chinese descent and grew up in the Philippines, and emigrated from the Philippines to the United States and his father in American Richard Cornelius Murphy, Jr., works for the state of California as a government employee, of Scottish, English, and Irish descent.[3] He attended his primary education in The School of the Madeleine and secondary education in Saint Mary's College High School in Berkeley, California. He graduated from Stanford University year 2010, where he was a mathematical and computational science major and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.[1] He was raised Catholic.

Career

He is the co-founder of Snapchat and CTO of Snap, Inc.[1] [4] Murphy recruited by Speigel, after the their had finished working on a failed startup called Future Freshman, a website that helped high school kids get advice and help with applying to colleges. That's where his friendship with Spiegel began, during their years in Stanford University, they were also fraternity brothers inKappa Sigma. Murphy is famous for creating a spectacular photo and video dissappearing-image messaging Picaboo in September 2011, which later became Snapchat today. Since he co-founded the Snapchat in 2011, Murphy leads Snap's engineering, product,and research teams including the recently launched Spectacles a wearable smart glasses that can capture video and photo can directly sends to Snapchat account of the user of it. Murphy once told Forbes "We weren't cool. So we tried to build things to be cool.", referring to his college days. [1] The quiet, 28-year-old engineer remains the author of much of the app's code of Snapchat to this day.

Personal life

Murphy is a native of California. He resides in Venice, California.[1] Where he bought a $2.1 million two-bedroom house located close to Snapchat’s new offices at 63 Market Street in Venice, CA. He was recently recorded as the 1,250th richest person in the world, by Forbes Magazine, in 2015.[1] In 2015, Murphy ranked#14 America's Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40.[1] As of in 2016, he was ranked #374 Forbes 400 and in 2015 Forbes 400 ranked him #374.[1] Murphy maintained decidedly a low profile status since the beginning of Snapchat.
