Haley (Sarah Hyland) decides to create her own business and enlists Phil’s (Ty Burrell) help which he accepts. He introduces her to Merv Schechter, a promotion expert, but Haley isn’t thrilled to meet him, especially when Phil accidentally tells her he does not believe on her at all. Later, Haley proves to be efficient when she offers help to her dad who has trouble selling a house where an owner has been killed.

At the same time, Claire (Julie Bowen) and Luke (Nolan Gould) get out Principal Brown’s office where Luke learns that he has a bad file and has no chance to go to college unless he chooses an extrascolar activity. He decides to be candidate at the student president election with Claire has his campaign manager. Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Gloria (Sofía Vergara) are not comfortable with this, especially because Manny (Rico Rodriguez had the same idea. Both teenagers are pressured by relatives with Luke dressing up like a penguin and Manny like a rapper. Luke manages finally to win the election.

Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) does not approve the fact that Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) let his favorite player Dwight live with them, something that Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) can not stand either. As Cameron wants Dwight to leave, he does not find the courage to tell him the truth, and Mitchell temporary saves the situation. When he discovers Cameron lied to him, and since he did not manage to make him walk a mile in his shoes, Mitchell tries to scolds of him but Cameron creates a diversion in order to make him happier and forget about it.

The episode ends with Luke and Phil visiting Merv Schechter whom Luke accidentally insults while he was trying to help him to be promoted after his recent election.
