Big Brother 6 (Albania)

Big Brother 6 (Albania) is the sixth season of the Albanian series of the worldwide franchise of Big Brother. It started on 23 February 2013, on Top Channel and ended on 1 June 2013. The eviction show aired on Saturdays at 21:00 CET, while a spin-off aired on Sundays called Big Brother Albania Fans' Club. The main host is Arbana Osmani, while Albana Osmani hosted the Sunday morning show, featuring dialogues with eliminated contestants and fans of the show. Arian Konomi took over for the fourth time the role of the panelist. Like all of the previous seasons, this one also had its 24/7 live PPV channels on DigitAlb. The winner received 15,000,000 Leks (€100,000). Anaidi was the winner of the season, being so the fifth male winner in the Big Brother Albania history. The house was rebuilt from scratch with a new location in Kashar, Albania. In the house there are four new rooms added: The Secret's Room, The Surprises' Room, The Matrix Room and The Library.

This is the first season of the Albanian version of the reality show Secret Story, based on the original French version. After many rumours, the name of the show didn't change.

Housemates

Altina

Altina Kusari is from Đakovica, Kosovo and works as an actress. She entered the House on Day 1 and walked on Day 15 because she claimed to be uncomfortable being watched by cameras and didn't like any of the people in the house. Altina was also informed that she won't be part of any of the spin-off shows for not respecting the contract she had signed with Big Brother. Her secret leaked two days after the show started on Facebook as a fan found a photo of Altina with a Real Madrid FC scarf.

Anaidi

Anaid Kaloti is 27 and is from Tirana, Albania. He entered the House on Day 1. After the third week he started an alliance with Joana and later Xhimi. Anaidi and Joana are in a relationship but not so openly to the housemates. Elena joined his alliance on Week 9. He got in a fight with Marselini and they both risked being ejected. Still they had to suffer a punishment. Anaidi has been successful in revealing most of the secrets and was one of the housemates who had a game strategy before entering the house. He also was in a permanent nomination because of Arsimi. Anaidi holds the record for revealing the most secrets during this season. Despite all the obstacles during his staying in the house, Anaidi managed to be the winner of Big Brother on Day 99.^[1]

Arsimi

Arsim Berisha is 33 and comes from Prizren, Kosovo. He entered the House on Day 1 and was evicted on Day 29. Arsimi had the power to send someone in a permanent nomination and he chose Anaidi. During his stay in the house he was quiet and didn't take part in arguments or other things that were happening in the house. Arsimi thinks that this was because there were no debates worth of taking place, and therefore he represented the Albanian culture at his best.

Edberi & Vigani

Edber Laho is 25 years old and Vigan Shehu is 21 years old. They both are from Pristine, Kosovo. Edberi and Vigani are friends out of the house and they had to hide this relationship as well as their secret. They entered the House as one housemate on Day 22 but the other housemates didn't know this thing as this was their secret. When Edberi gets a nomination or Vigani gets a nomination this vote counts for both of them. Since Day 71 the connection between these two housemates was split by Big Brother. One week later Edberi was evicted, meanwhile Vigani left the house on Day 85.

Eldora

Eldora Koçi is 27 and is from Berat, Albania. She entered the House on Day 1. Eldora is known as a silent, kind and very honest person. On Week 6 she had a misunderstanding with Shpendi for some things Marselini, her friend, had said by claiming that Eldora and Shpendi are in a relationship. After this Eldora and Elena left the alliance with Marselini. Eldora's secret was that she had thalassemia and her secret was revealed by her closest friend Elena who promised to Eldora not to reveal it. After this backstabbing, Elena has been closer to Joana. Eldora was a victim of a double eviction twist one week before the finale and she was evicted on Day 92.

Elena

Elena Lika is 18 and comes from Tirana, Albania. She entered the House on Day 1. Elena is a model and is known for taking part in the second cycle of Albania's Next Top Model in which she finished 5th. Since the first day, she, Eldora and Marselini created an alliance which didn't last too long. Elena was seen kissing and making out with Vigani but on the Live Show she said that there's nothing between them because she already had a boyfriend outside the house.^[2] She left the house on Day 64.

Elona

Elona Xara, a 27-year-old woman, comes from Paris, France but was originally born in Albania. She has been living in Paris for 23 years. Elona graduated as a stylist in one of the most famous fashion schools in France. She has also been working on some fashion reality shows. Elona says she wants to enter the house of Big Brother because she wants to know more for the Albanian people as she lost contact with Albania since she was only four years old. She sees her future in Albania, maybe working in her won "atelier mode". Elona entered the house on Day 1 and is known for her controversial thoughts. During the Saturday's Show, being asked by Arian for something personal, Elona answered that she doesn't want to talk about her personal life, even though she is in a reality show. Elona has been friends with Ilir since the beginning and they have created their alliance. She had a loud fight with Joana which led to the partition of the house in two big groups. Due to a controversy on Week 13, Elona risked being expelled from the house as she had violated one of the rules. She used one of the envelopes inside the house, which were sent in from Big Brother, as hints for the weekly task, to write something for her friend Rike.^[3] Later the production asked Elona to give up the envelope in the Diary Room, but instead she ripped it. Both, Rike and Elona, were punished in the Live Show of that week. The next week the discussion was opened again with fans and housemates stating that Rike and Elona might have feelings for each other.^[4] Rike negated such things and Elona said that she didn't want to tell what was written because it was something very personal and private which had nothing to do with Rike.^[5][6] On Day 99, the Finale, Elona was voted as the third runner-up.

Etleva

Etleva Gega is from Milot, Albania and is 20. The day she entered the house, she had her 20th birthday. Etleva says that she wanted to enter the house to tell the people that also the girls from villages are clever and beautiful and open-minded as well. Etleva entered the House on Day 1 and was evicted on Day 22.

Iliri

Ilir Beqiri is 27 and comes from Florence, Italy, but was originally born in Albania. He entered the House on Day 1 and was known as one of the most energetic housemates of the season. Ilir said that he wanted to enter the house because he wanted to give himself a chance to be someone in life. His friends inside the house were almost the same throughout the whole game. Iliri was the runner-up of this season.

Joana

Joana Gjuzi is 26 and lives in Tirana. Joana wants to be a chemist and is already in college. Inside the house she is known as one of the most hated housemates holding the biggest number of nominations. Joana probably argued with everyone in the house and the other housemates described her as an unsupportable female. Anaid and Jonilda might have been her only allies but during the game they had their ups and downs also. Joana also started supporting Marselini when he left the alliance with Eldora and Elona. During Week 10 Joana was fake evicted by the production to provoke the relationship between her and Anaidi. Anaidi and Joana were fake nominated and than they had to choose who would have to leave the house. Anaid voted Joana out and Joana voted herself out. However one week later on Day 78 Joana left the house in a double eviction twist.

Jonilda

Jonilda Asllanaj is 25 and comes from Parma, Italy. She entered the House on Day 1 and was evicted on Day 36. Jonila even though was considered as a housemate for four weeks she was inside the house for only three weeks because of her breast implant surgery which was also her secret. Jonilda was fake-evicted on Day 15 and re-entered one week later. Joana and Jonilda were friends for the first two weeks but than Jonilda saw Joana's game from the Secret Room and she changed opinion.

Marselini

Marselin Hitollari is 25 and he comes from Bari, Italy but was originally born in Berat, Albania. He entered the House on Day 1 and was evicted on Day 43. Marselini was in an alliance with Eldora and Elona since the beginning but this alliance didn't last too long. Marselin's secret was that he was a gigolo and even his fiance didn't know anything about this secret, but she soon found out in one of the Live Shows when Marselini started confessing.

Olsen

Olsen Nita is 27 and comes from Athens, Greece but was originally born in Elbasan, Albania. He entered the House on Day 1 and was evicted on Day 15.

Olta

Olta Leka is 25 and was born in Burrel, Albania but lives in London for more than ten years now. She entered the House on Day 1 and was evicted on Day 50.

Rike

Nife Roçi known by her nickname Rike is 24 years old from Durrës, Albania, but now she is living in Novara, Italy. She entered the House on Day 50 and she is doubted to be the lesbian houseguest because since the beginning of the show there were rumors that there would be a gay housemate in the game.^[7] On Week 13, Elona started writing down something for Rike and the production asked Elona to hand over the envelope to the cast in the Diary Room or she would be suspended or expelled. Elona refused to hand over the envelope and ripped it, stating that she wrote down something very personal and she wouldn't want anyone to know about it. On the Live Show on that week Elona and Rike were both punished. On the next Live Show this topic was discussed again and there was a clip shown with the housemates doubting that Elona might have feelings for Rike and the two girls might be lesbians.^[8][9][10] However, Rike negated such things and said that Elona and she are just close friends and that the thing Elona had written on the envelope was something very personal and private and she didn't want to tell anyone without her friend's permission.

Shpendi

Shpend Zenuni is 30 years old and is from Pristina, Kosovo. He entered the House on Day 1 and finished fourth in the Finale on Day 99.

Xhimi

Xhimi is 44 years old and comes from Athens, Greece. He entered the House on Day 1 and was evicted on Day 57. The day he was evicted, Xhimi posted a photo on Facebook with a caption blaming the panelist of the show, Arjan Konomi, for being the one who decided to evict him and said that the public's votes were rigged.^[11]

Secrets

Rike entered the house on Week 8, thus she didn't have any real secret in the game. On the eleventh week, a mission was given to Rike to change all housemates' hair colour but still this didn't count as a secret.

On Day 71 the secret of Edberi & Vigani was revealed to all the housemates currently in the house and since then they've played the game separately.

Reception

Controversy & criticism

Altina's secret leaked on social networks because of a photo someone had found in her Facebook account. After this thing it is supposed that the production took care to shut down all of the housemates' personal profiles and accounts. However, there were still fan pages administrated by the housemates' relatives that posted photos.

After two weeks the show had started there were rumors that two of the housemates: Anaidi and Joana were in a relationship out the house and that they knew each other.^[12] However, in an exclusive interview for Bluetooth Magazine, Rezart Aga, the producer of the show said that the housemates were picked carefully and there are no knowings between them.

In the Week 8 Live Show of Saturday, Arian Konomi the panelist of the show offended Xhimi by saying that he was a person without personality and than a fight erupted between these two. Arian was criticized by many journalists and people for his harsh comments towards the housemates. In the Week 9 Live Show he publicly apologized to Xhimi, the housemates and the viewers. At the same night Xhimi was evicted from the house and on an interview he said that he regrets making a joke in the house saying he had put condoms in the meal. However this statement was a proof to the question if there are or not condoms in the house.^[13]

Since Rike entered the house in Week 8 she already knew all of the housemates' secrets. Even though, Arbana Osmani said that Rike won't tell any of the secrets to the other housemates she broke the rules on Day 60 by telling the secret of Anaidi to both Joana and Elona. Two days after this thing happened the production took on the official Facebook page of Big Brother Albania to tell that Rike doesn't know any of the secrets and so she couldn't tell any of the housemates any secret.^[14] The fans claimed that Osmani herself told that Rike already knew the secrets making this story a lot more controversial.

The day he was evicted, Xhimi posted a photo on Facebook with a caption blaming the panelist of the show, Arjan Konomi, for being the one who decided to evict him and said that the public's votes were rigged.^[15]

Critical recepetion

Moving to the new formula, this year Big Brother received mainly negative reviews. Many of the critics said that the new format just made the show more boring than it was. There were also rumors that the following year the production had decided to switch back to the previous and basic format of the show with a reduced number of housemates. However, there were people and fans of the show who loved the new format and said that it made the show more interesting, in a way that viewers can connect more to the housemates. The season finale was considered as one of the best finales ever in the last four years. However, there were also critiques from fans who said that what made the finale boring was the fact that for everything they had to show a video first. During the Finale there were shown almost 16 videos with a length of three to five minutes.^[16]

Viewing figures

Ratings have also been down to 20% for the first weeks of this season comparing it to the previous seasons but still during the following weeks the ratings improved and Big Brother regained its place like the winner for Saturday's night prime time. Again in the last four weeks, Big Brother suffered some of its worst ratings in six years.^[17] On Saturday, May 18, Big Brother had to compete against the finale of Eurovision Song Contest 2013, but still managed to do good, meanwhile on Saturday, May 25 it had to compete against the finale of Champions League.^[18][19]

The Reunion Show (Post Big Brother)

The Reunion Show was held one week after the finale of the season. The day was set to be on Sunday at 22:00 CET.^[20] Before the official announcement of the day there were rumors that the show would air either on Friday or Saturday. All the housemates took part, except Altina, and there were discussions for all the fights and controversies that happened during the season.^[21]

• ^Note 1 : During Week 1, Arismi had the opportunity to nominate one of the housemates in the House. This housemate would be nominated every week until his/her eviction. He chose Anaidi.

• ^Note 3 : Jonilda was fake evicted on Day 15, to make a plastic surgery during her stay in Big Brother. Then, on Day 22, she re-entered in the House as a new housemate and was exempt to vote.

This thing was done to make the housemates more determined in their games. The fake nominations are in italic.

• ^Note 9 : This week was a double eviction. During the night the housemates had to nominate one housemate for eviction
• ^Note 10 : The nominees (Anaidi, Elona, Iliri, Shpendi) had to choose between Eldora or Rike, the two housemates that were not nominated, to send one of them up for eviction. The nominees voted unanimously for Rike.
• ^Note 11 : During this week there was a double eviction. After Rike was evicted the lines were open so the public could vote for their favorite housemates. After the lines were closed, Eldora was the housemate with the least number of votes, thus she was evicted.

• On Week 10, the nominations were fake, so they are not added at the total of votes received.
• On Week 14, Rike was nominated as part of a twist.
