Beverley High School is a girls' comprehensive school founded in 1908. It is located in Norwood, Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.

The High School has close links with the all-boys Beverley Grammar School, and has a joint sixth form with the Beverley Grammar School. It is a state comprehensive school and has an intake of girls only; apart from the joint 6th. The head teacher is Sharon Japp, currently acting head is Mr M Colton.[1]

According to government league tables[2] for 2008, it was the highest performing state school in the East Riding of Yorkshire. In spring 2009, the school was described as "outstanding" by Ofsted, however in the 2013 inspection it was graded as "Requires Improvement".

Famous former pupils include actress Eleanor Tomlinson[3] and TV and radio presenter Lindsey Chapman.[4]

Curriculum

Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3 is taught in years 7, 8 and 9, involving pupils aged between 11 and 14. At the end of this three-year period, the majority of pupils sit KS3 SATs. At the end of Key Stage 3, pupils choose options for the GCSE exams they wish to sit. Some subjects are obligatory; all pupils take Technology, Language, Maths, Religious Studies, English Literature, English Language and at least a single award in Science (equivalent of one GCSE). Most pupils take a dual award (equivalent of two GCSEs) while the top set takes triple Science (equivalent of three GCSEs) including a weekly after-school session. Pupils are able to choose which Technology and Language they want to study and to select two other options such as Geography, Music or Drama.

Key Stage 4

Pupils, aged 14 to 16, in years 10 and 11, have an increased number of options, with some permitted to leave school during lunchtimes. At the end of this time, or possibly during it, pupils sit for their GCSEs. Success in these exams can determine whether a pupil joins the sixth form.

Sixth form

The Joint Sixth Form is the final stage before pupils leave school to either seek further education or employment, and is conducted jointly with Beverley Grammar School. Pupils split their time between the two schools. During the Sixth Form pupils sit for both the AS and A2 exams. The sixth form also accepts pupils who have previously attended other schools.
