Basha Kill
The Basha Kill is located in Wurtsboro, New York. Part of the preserve was used in the Delaware and Hudson Canal. The preserve is located between the Catskills and Shawangunk Mountains. The land is mostly made up of marshes with birds, and fish. Some birds migrate there, and also live year around.
The largest number of North American birds can be found here, over 220 species. Bird watchers from across the US and globe come to the Basha Kill to observe migratory birds, and local species. Wood Ducks, Ospreys, Eagles, and other birds breed in the marsh. Wood ducks and Black ducks are the primary species of duck bred in the marsh. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) built a dam in Pine Kill to preserve the Basha Kill and its wildlife.
One can also find 30 species of fish, and many amphibian and reptile species. 200 species of wildflowers. Locals use the area as a fishing spot, and can take canoes and paddle boats out in the marsh. Motorized boats are prohibited. Some external links on search engines list the preserve as Basher Kill, but this is incorrect. It's spelled Basha Kill. Most locals in Wurtsboro refer to it as the Kill.
