Barkot is a town and a nagar palika in Uttarkashi District in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is located on the banks of the Yamuna river. Barkot is located 48 km from Yamunotri. NH-123 and NH-94 are major highways connecting in Barkot.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Barkot had a population of 16568. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Barkot has an average literacy rate of, higher than the national average of 84.5%; with 93% of the males and 77% of females literate. 54% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Barkot is most beautifull valley . there are many place/hotels to stay .many temple which have old civilization . and near so many places for ancient civilization . most common name near 12 km ganagani where the saint jamdagnee rishi leaving . and worship daily .kalpvriksh is situated near gangani . also have a ancient lord shiva temple .
