The women's 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2008 Summer Olympics occurred on 1517 August at the Beijing National Stadium,[1] the first time this event had ever been held at the Olympics.

The qualifying standards were 9:46.00 (A standard) and 9:55.00 (B standard).[2]

In the final, Gulnara Samitova-Galkina of Russia became the first woman in history to run under 9 minutes for the steeplechase, setting a world record time of 8:58.81.

Doping samples from 2008 were retained and retested in 2016. Third place finisher Yekaterina Volkova's sample was found to have dehydrochlormethyltestosterone (turinabol) and she was disqualified.[3]
