Artpace is a non-profit contemporary art gallery located in San Antonio, Texas, United States, founded by Linda Pace.[2] Artpace opened its doors in 1995, and focuses on the artistic process. Occupying the space of a former Hudson automobile dealership, Artpace uses its industrial space as the setting for its programs and events.

International artist-in-residence program

Artpace is known for their International Artist-in-Residence program, which involves bringing one artist from Texas, one from the United States, and one from around the world, to Artpace to create an original work of art.[3] The International Artist-in-Residence artists are chosen by a guest curator and the program invites nine artists per year to live and work at Artpace in three different 4 month cycles.[4] For a full list of artists that have participated in the International Artist-in-Residence program see below.

Window Works

The Window Works exhibition space at Artpace is visible from N. Main Avenue, which means that the space is accessible to the community.[5]

Hudson (Show)Room

The Hudson (Show)Room is a gallery space that often exhibits international artists and exhibitions. The room is named for the former function of Artpace's building, a Hudson automobile dealership.[6]

Education

Artpace's education programs are designed to expose the youth of San Antonio to think critically about art [7] Each program aims to educate, engage, and spark a dialogue about contemporary art. The education department at Artpace has K-12 programs, community Programs, U of Artpace (University Programs), and Adult Programs.[8]

Chalk It Up

Chalk It Up is an annual citywide family-friendly event that promotes the importance of art education.[9] Each year, Houston Street in downtown San Antonio is filled with chalk drawings, music, and original murals by artists in San Antonio.[10] The event facilitates interactions between the community and contemporary artists. This year Chalk It Up will take place on October 11, 2014 from 10AM-4PM.

Family Day

Artpace partners with other arts organizations in San Antonio, and hosts an annual Family Day in the spring to host an art-themed day designed for younger children and their families.[11]
