The Anuga FoodTec (official subtitle International supplier fair for the food and drink industry) is the world’s leading trade fair for the food and drink industry. It covers all aspects of food production from processing, filling and packaging technology as well as packaging materials and ingredients to food safety and innovations in all areas associated with food production.

It takes place in Cologne - Germany every three years. The organizer is Cologne Trade Fair (koelnmesse). The non-material sponsor is German Agricultural Society (Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft e.V. DLG).

Resource efficiency is one of the focal points of Anuga FoodTec. A protective and efficient use of natural resources is considered the key competence of future societies. Exhibitors demonstrate a variety of solutions for strengthening competitiveness while reducing the use of energy, water and food in production. The numerous events that make up the framework programme also illuminate this topic from various angles.

History

Originating from the former Anuga-Technica and the DLG-FoodTec fairs, Anuga FoodTec has been providing a comprehensive process-oriented overview of all the technologies required for food production, from processing and packaging to distribution, since 1996. [1] Its independence from specific industries, raw materials, and sub-processes has made the trade fair one of the leading information and procurement platforms in the global food industry.

In 2012, 42,986 visitors (from 126 countries) came to Anuga FoodTec and could obtain information from 1,289 exhibitors (from 41 countries) on a total surface area of 127,000 square meters. [2] [3]The trade fair also saw a positive development in 2012 in the number of exhibitors (10%) and visitors (27%).[4]

In 2015, the trade fair achieved a new exhibitor and visitor record. Up 14 percent from the previous fair, 1,496 exhibitors (from 49 countries) exhibited on a total surface area of 129,700 sqm. With regard to trade visitors, 45,604 experts (from 139 countries) represented an increase of 6 percent. International visitors accounted for more than 50 percent of the total.

In 2011 [5] Anuga FoodTec formed a strategic partnership with PMMI, the organizer of Pack Expo and Expo Pack which was renewed in 2015.[6] In April 2016 Koelnmesse and Fiere di Parma founded a Joint-Venture to commonly organize Cibus Tec, the leading Italian foodtechnology fair. [7]
