Anthropologie is an American clothing retailer that currently operates over 200 stores worldwide featuring a curated assortment of women's apparel and accessories, home furnishings, décor, gifts and found objects.

Anthropologie is part of URBN brands, which includes Urban Outfitters, Free People, BHLDN and Terrain.[1][2][3][4]

History

Founded by the current URBN chairman and president Richard Hayne, Anthropologie opened its first store in the autumn of 1992 in Wayne, Pennsylvania. In 1998, the brand launched a mail-order catalog and website. In April 2009, Anthropologie opened its first international store in Toronto, followed by subsequent storefronts in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

Led by David McCreight, CEO of the Anthropologie group, the company now operates over 200 retail stores throughout the US, Canada and the UK.[5]

Collaborations

Anthropologie often partners with artists and designers from around the world to create limited-run collections in apparel, accessories and home. Collaborators have included Tracy Reese, Peter Som, Collette Dinnigan, Mara Hoffman, Liya Kebede, Byron Lars, Chris Benz, Kit Kemp and Claire Desjardins.
