Anne-Marie Belinda Trevelyan is a British Conservative Party politician, who has served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Berwick upon Tweed since May 2015.[1]

She is also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Early life

A daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald Leonard Beaton,[2] Trevelyan was educated at St Paul's Girls' School.[3]

Career

Before entering parliament, Trevelyan was a Governor of Northumbria Healthcare Trust[4] and also of Berwick Academy.

She qualified as a chartered accountant with Price WaterhouseCoopers in London and worked in PwC’s corporate finance department before moving to Northumberland in 1996.[5]

Trevelyan stood in the 2010 general election as the Conservative candidate for Berwick, achieving a swing from the Liberal Democrats to Conservatives of 8.3%. In so doing, she reduced Sir Alan Beith’s majority from 8,632 to 2,690.

Reports prepared by Trevelyan's "Dual the A1 Campaign"[6] contributed to the consultation to make the road a dual carriageway.

At the general election of May 2015, Trevelyan gained the Berwick constituency for the Conservatives. In June she joined the Conservatives for Britain group, a Eurosceptic group which has since moved closer to outright opposition to British membership of the European Union.

Upon her election to the House of Commons, Trevelyan was appointed Vice-Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Forestry, before being elected, unopposed (as an FCA), to the Public Accounts Select Committee in June 2015. In November 2015 she was appointed to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.[7]

Personal life

Anne-Marie Beaton married John Trevelyan, owner of the Netherwitton Hall Estates in Northumberland.
