Amagasaki Castle
Amagasaki Castle was a 16th-century Flatland type castle, located in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. It is now ruins.[1][2]
History
Toda Ujikane built the castle in 1617. There was an earlier, smaller castle, originally built by the Hosokawa clan, in the Sengoku period on site and Amagasaki Castle was built around it. The site was strategics in that there were two rivers flowing into the ocean, which the castle was near, and the moat was connected to the river and had boat landings.
Araki Murashiage rebelled against Oda Nobunaga and fled here, and while he escaped, many of his soldiers were killed on the site by Oda's forces.
The castle had three baileys and three water moats. IN 1873, the castle was demolished, and much of the material was used in a nearly ocean break wall.
Current site
There are some reconstructed walls on site, but there is little guidance or signage, and little original evidence of the castle. There have been plans for 2018 to rebuild it mooted by the government [3]
