Alphonso Martin

Alphonso Martin (born March 20, 1956, in Birmingham, England) is a British musician best known as a percussionist and vocalist for the reggae group Steel Pulse.[1]

He joined Pulse in 1976 as a friend of David Hinds. He played percussion and backup vocals for fifteen years, until leaving the band in 1991 after the release of Victims to pursue other interests.

He is the father of 2011 Miss Jamaica Universe winner Shakira Martin. After a lifelong battle with sickle-cell disease, she passed away on August 3, 2016 at the age of 30.

He currently lives in Birmingham.
