Alovsat Bakhshiyev

Alovsat Gazanfar Bakhshiyev (Azerbaijani: Əlövset Baxşıyev Qəzənfər oğlu) (1956 in Sharur Rayon, Nakhchivan ASSR) has been Prime Minister of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic since 2000.

He was born on June 22, 1956 in the Sharur Rayon in Nakhchivan. He is an ethnic Azerbaijani. After finishing middle school he studied 1973-1977 at the Faculty for Finances and Credit of the Azerbaijan Institute of People's Economy in Baku.

1977-1979 he completed military service in the Soviet Army. 1979-1986 he was director of a sovkhoz in the Sharur Rayon.

Until September 1991 he was member of the CPSU. In 1992 he became a member of the newly founded New Azerbaijan Party (YAP). In 2000 Nakhchivan's Head Vasif Talibov named him Prime Minister of the region.[1]
