Alexandra Huntingdon Tydings, also called Alexandra Tydings Luzzatto(born December 15, 1972), is an American actress, best known for her role as Greek goddess Aphrodite on the television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and its spin-off, Xena: Warrior Princess.

Personal life

Alexandra Tydings was born on December 15, 1972, in Washington, D.C. She has four sisters and one brother, and is the granddaughter of former Maryland senator Millard Tydings. She is a graduate of Sidwell Friends School and Brown University, with a degree in film and critical theory.[1] Her mother is Terry Huntingdon Miss USA 1959.

Tydings counts Katharine Hepburn and Kevin Spacey among her favorite actors, and as she told Whoosh.org, she most enjoys the research and collaborating process of acting; auditioning is her least favorite part of theater arts.[2] She competed in Irish dancing as a child,[1] and dance led to performance of all kinds; in addition to acting, she was the singer and bassist of bands Annabelle Kickbox and She's Seen You Naked.

Whoosh.org points out that Tydings maintained a vegetarian diet for fourteen years, and that she enjoys gardening.[3]

Tydings is married to Ben Luzzatto, and they have two daughters; Ruby (born June 17, 2004) and Emerson (born June 4, 2006).

Career

After graduating from Brown University, Tydings moved to Hollywood to pursue an acting career. She starred in several such independent films as Alice and Angst, and eventually landed a recurring role on New Zealand television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, amongst guest roles on several television series.

As of late June 2016, Tydings was living in Washington, D.C., where she began teaching rock 'n' roll yoga in 2005. She began as a student in the 1990s, and received the idea of playing loud rock music during class from a former instructor in Los Angeles.[4]
