Alexander Isak (Swedish pronunciation: [alɛkˈsandɛr ˈiːsak]; born 21 September 1999 in Solna, Greater Stockholm) is a Swedish footballer who plays for AIK as a forward.[1]
Early life
Isak was born and raised in Solna, Stockholm County, by parents from Eritrea.[2] He started playing with the youth team of the local club, AIK, at age six.[1]
Club career
He made his team debut on 28 February 2016, when he came on in the 75th minute during the Swedish Cup away match against Tenhults IF (fourth tier club) at the age of 16, scoring one goal in the 6–0 victory.[3]
On 7 April 2016, AIK was in Östersund to play its second match of the 2016 Allsvenskan. The head coach, Andreas Alm, included Isak in the starting lineup for the away match against Östersunds FK together with another young striker, Carlos Strandberg. Isak secured the match scoring the 2–0 goal, becoming the youngest scorer in AIK Allsvenskan history at the age of 16 years and 199 days.[4]
He was confirmed in the starting lineup for the following matches. On 25 April, he scored for the first time at AIK's home ground, opening the score in the 2–1 victory against Elfsborg.[5]
On 3 May 2016, he signed his first professional contract through the end of the 2018 season.[3] Between match days 8 and 9, head coach Alm was sacked, but Isak was confirmed in the lineup by the new manager, Rikard Norling.[6]
On 21 September 2016, the same day he turned 17, Alexander Isak scored two crucial goals in an away match against cross-town rivals Djurgården in the Stockholm derby, ensuring AIK took the three points, winning 3-0, and capping off a wonderful 17th birthday. He was later described by his team-mate, Chinedu Obasi, as "Sweden's new Zlatan Ibrahimovic".[7]
