Alan H. Goodman

Alan H. Goodman is a biological anthropologist and the author/editor of numerous publications, including Building a New Biocultural Synthesis (1999), Genetic Nature/Culture (2003), 978-0-8493-2720-9 The Nature of Difference (2006), and "Nutritional Anthropology: Biocultural Perspectives on Food and Nutrition" (2012). He received his PhD from the University of Massachusetts, was a postdoctoral fellow in international nutrition at the University of Connecticut, and a research fellow in stress physiology at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm.

Career

He served as president of the American Anthropological Association from 2005 to 2007 and has been an important contributor to many of the organization's projects, including RACE: Are We So Different?. He is also the author of the companion book (2012) for the project. He has been a professor of anthropology at Hampshire College since 1985 where he is a former dean of the School of Natural Science, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dean of Faculty.[1] He is a founding member of the Five College Consortium "Culture, Health and Science " program and currently teaches courses in Hampshire's School of Natural Science, including Human Variation: Race, Science, and Politics, and Sex, Death and Teeth: Life Stories Recorded in Teeth.[2]
