The Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) is the state education agency of Alabama. It is headquartered at 50 North Ripley Street in Montgomery.[1] The department was formed by the Alabama legislature in 1854.[2]

Dr. Thomas R. Bice was appointed Alabama's State Superintendent of Education on November 10, 2011, and assumed the position on January 1, 2012.[3]
