Akuma (folklore)

The akuma (あくま) is a fire spirit derived from Japanese folklore. Alternative names for the akuma are toori akuma (とーりあくま), and ma (ま). Akuma means devil in Japanese, and is typically depicted as an entity with a fiery head and eyes, and carrying a sword. The akuma is typically told to be able to fly, and to be a harbinger of ominous fortune, that it can bring misfortune to those who happen to see it.
