Ah Yeah (stylized as AH YEAH) is the second mini-album by South Korean girl group EXID, released on 13 April 2015 by Yedang Entertainment and distributed by Sony Music. "Up & Down" was released as the lead single while its title track served as the follow-up single from the album.

Background and release

On 4 March 2015, a representative from EXID's label spoke to Star News that the group is working on a new song, scheduled to be released in the second week of April. However at the time, it was undecided if the song would be released as a single or with a mini-album.[1][2] On 3 April, the album's cover art and tracklist were leaked online, prompting Yedang to issue a message the following day, stating that they would take legal action if the leak harms the group's comeback success.[3]

The group held a showcase at Noon Square in Myeongdong on 12 April in which they revealed and performed "Ah Yeah" to the public for the first time.[4][5]

As of October 2015, the album has sold close to 41,000 copies in South Korea and 7,000 copies in Japan.[6][7]

Composition

The album was composed by Shinsadong Tiger, who has been the group's producer since their debut.[8] Member LE also participated in the album's production, co-writing and composing all the songs on the album. The title track, "Ah Yeah", is a hip-hop style dance song with a repetitive hook. "Pat Pat" is described as an "urban R&B" song and "With Out U" as an "urban dance" song. The album also includes their previous single "Up & Down" as well as a new version of "Every Night."[9][10]

Singles

"Up & Down"

"Up & Down" (Hangul: 위아래; RR: Wiarae) was pre-released as a digital single on 27 August 2014, and is composed and produced by the group's long-time collaborator Shinsadong Tiger, Namking Nang and member LE.[11] It was the group's first release with Yedang Entertainment after signing with the company in June 2014.[12] The corresponding music video was released with the single, and directed by Digipedi.[11]

The single made headlines for its belated chart run after initial mediocre success, the song started charting three months after its debut.[13] The late success of the single was attributed to a fan-cam video of member Hani performing the song, which went viral across Korean social media networks in late November.[14][15][16]

"Up & Down" debuted at number 94 on the Gaon Domestic Singles Chart, before falling off the chart the following week.[17] However, in the week of 16 November 2014, the song entered the Gaon Overall Singles Chart at number 34 due to its belated popularity, remaining in top five for the following three weeks before topping the chart for the week of 28 December 2014.[18][19]

Since its release, the song has sold over 1.3 million digital copies in South Korea,[20] becoming the group's first million-selling hit single (see EXID discography).
