Agia Marina (Greek: Αγία Μαρίνα (Σκυλλούρας); Turkish: Gürpınar) is a village in Cyprus, 24 km west of Nicosia. It takes its name from Saint Marina.[1] De facto, Agia Marina is under the control of Northern Cyprus.
Agia Marina had a mixed (majority) Maronite and Turkish Cypriot population. In January 1964, amid the intercommunal violence, the Turkish Cypriots of Agia Marina fled to Nicosia. During the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, all Maronites (about 420) were displaced, and the village was abandoned. Today, Agia Marina is used as a Turkish military camp.[2] Its original inhabitants have not been allowed to enter the village, despite relaxations on movement in 2003.[3]
