Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi

Agha Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi[1] Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi, is the The Patron-in-Chief of Supreme Shia Ullama Board, President of Tehrik-e-Nafaz-e-Fiqah-e-Jafaria (تحریکِ نفاذِ فقہ جعفریہ, Shia-law implementation movement for shia citizens of Pakistan)[2] the only representative of Shia School of Thought in Pakistan. He belongs to Moosavi saadat, descendents of Imam Moosa al Kadhim(kazim) seventh infallible imam of shiites. Agha Hamid Moosavi became quaid (leader) of shiites of Pakistan after the demise of Allama Mufti Jafar Hussain. In Dec 1983 a delegation led by renowned shia scholars, zakereen, elites requested Agha Moosavi to accept leadership of Tehrik-e-Nafaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafariya(TNFJ). And Finally a large gathering comprising hundreds of thousands of Pakistani shiites held at Dina (Jhelum) on 9–10 February 1984[3] endorsed the leadership of Agha Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi Al-najafi. He got the title of 'Quaid-e-Millat-e-Jafariya'. He is called Agha g sarkar also.

Early Age

Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi born in Jhalori village District Mirpur Khas of Sindh Province. His ancestral town is District Chakwal of Pakistan's Punjab Province. He got his early education from Govt High School Karyala Chakwal. He got his early religious education from Dar-ul-uloom Muhammadia District Sargodha under supervision of teachers like Naseer-ul-Millat, Allama Naseer Hussain.

Education at Najaf Iraq

[edit] In 1960 Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi went to Najaf al-ashraf Iraq for Higher religious education on insistence of a great spiritual figure Peer Fazal Hussain Shah. In Najaf Agha Moosavi got education under supervision of Grand Marje Ayatullah Mohsin al-Hakim, Ayatulla Jawad Tabrezi, Ayatullah Mufti osh-Shia, Ayatullah Qasim Kokabi, Ayatullah Rooh-ulla-Moosavi Al khomeini(founder of Iranian Islamic revolution), Ayatullah Abul Qasim al-khoei etc.

Arrival From Najaf

[edit] In 1967 Grand Marje Ayatullah Mohsin al-Hakim sent Agha Moosavi to Pakistan on request of people of Pakistan. He founded Jamea tul Momeneneen at Satellite Town Rawalpindi. Agha Moosavi is wakeel-e-mutliq of Ayatullah Mohsin alhakim, Ayatullah Khomeini and other religious authorities since then. Agha Moosavi raised voice against Dictator Zia ul Haq, when he announced to make Pakistan a hanafi state on 12th Rabi-ul-awwal 1979. After formation of Tehrik-e-Nafaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafariya (TNFJ) he remained active for rights of Pakistani shiites. Agitation Against Dictator Zia ul Haq: In 1984 Gen Zia regime amended the Police act and imposed ban on shiites Azadari(mourning of Imam Hussain) procession. Agha Moosavi, who had become quaid of TNFJ started agitation by sit-in on 10 Muharram(October 1984) at Fawara chowk Rawalpindi. Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi got arrested and he announced to start 'Hussaini Mahaz Agitation' against ban on religious processions. At least 14000 people got arrested durin agitation.

Moosavi Junejo Agreement

[4] - Termination of curbs from Azadari:[edit] After non-partisan general elections in 1985 Muhammad Khan junejo became Prime Minister of Pakistan. Junejo started negotiations with TNFJ leaders and an agreement known as 'Moosavi Junejo Agreement was finalized on 21 May 1985 in which it was decided that there would be no restriction on religious processions.

Political Policy

In 1988 general elections were held after 11 years of martial law. A shiite group announced to participate in elections while Agha Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi announced that the participation in elections on basis of sect, language or caste is injurious to Pakistan integrity and solidarity.

Moosavi Peace Formula

Pakistan had been remain under sectarian violence and bloodshed due to dictator Zia ul Haq policies. Hundreds and thousands of innocent people lost their lives in terrorism. In 1997, Supreme court's chief justice Sajjad Ali Shah took the sou moto notice of terrorism and invited major parties and different Schools of thought to present their suggestions. Agha Hamid Moosavi submitted peace formula in supreme court which was highly appreciated by court and civil society also. National Action Plan (NAP) recently launched by Government of Pakistan to curb terrorism and extremism has included lot of suggestions presented by Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi.

Agha Syed Hamid Ali Shah Moosavi had been vocal to implement NAP in true spirit.[5] He has highlighted the deficiencies in implementation of National action plan so many times.[6]
