The Accra Institute of Technology (AIT) popularly known as AIT, is an independent technology-focused research university, based in Accra, Ghana. AIT is committed to academic excellence, cutting-edge research and development work. The University is modeled on internationally recognized institutes of technology. The university comprises six schools and three institutes. AIT has a focus on engineering and technology, as well as an entrepreneurial culture.

AIT: Two Systems – One University

AIT through its Two Systems – One University policy, is both a campus-based university and an open university. It offers a number of undergraduate campus-based programs as well as undergraduate and postgraduate open university programs in various fields.

Accreditation

AIT is accredited by the National Accreditation Board (Ghana), of the Ministry of Education in Ghana to offer campus-based and open university programs in various fields.[1] The campus-based programs are offered at the undergraduate level in engineering, computer science, information technology and business administration.

Affiliations

AIT is affiliated to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for its campus-based programs[2] It is affiliated to the Open University Malaysia for its open university programs[3]

The campus-based programs offered at AIT are delivered using the conventional mode of academic program delivery. The Multiple Degree programs

AIT is pioneering the multiple degree concept to offer opportunities to those studying for a bachelor's degree at other tertiary institutions to concurrently enroll on one of AIT's open university accredited bachelor's degree programs. The multiple degree program at AIT is possible because of the availability of the open university option at AIT that makes it possible for university students to optimize their time by pursuing a degree program in a traditional campus-based university and at the same time concurrently register and study for another degree program at an open university.

The AIT E- Library Collections and Learning Resources

AIT have an extensive electronic library facilities including e-books, study materials and lessons, learning materials in audio and video format, computer science and engineering simulators and virtual laboratory resources among others. The e-library facilities include:

The AIT E-Library Resources

The AIT e-library hosts a large collection of e-books, e-journals, simulators, multimedia learning resources and as well as provide links to close to 50 free e-libraries of other universities and other public libraries on the Internet

The E-Library of the Open University Malaysia (OUM)

The OUM –Library Collection is made up of more than 40,000 e-book titles and 18,000 e-journal titles and other electronic-based learning resources.

The AIT online Resources facility consist of over 10,000 e-learning resources including: e-lessons, e-books, multimedia learning resources, e-courses, e-learning and training materials, research resources, educational resources, video clips, text books, lifelong learning resources, lecture notes and handouts

The AIT E-Library Collections consist of 20,000 e-book titles and collections in Engineering, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Computing Sciences, Humanities, Languages, Project Management and many others.

Research

The PhD programme at AIT is central to research activities at AIT. The program currently enroll over 200 local and international students of which close to 80 are PhD candidates pursuing their PhD in business administration, Engineering, Information Technology and Education. All registered PhD students first go through a probational first year during which they do their mandatory courses and develop a comprehensive research proposal under a collective supervision of the members of the AIT PhD Research Panel. Successful PhD students proceed to PhD candidature of successful completion of probational year

Nigerian Students Association

The Nigerian Students Association (NSA AIT Chapter) is a branch of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) representing Nigerian students in Accra Institute of Technology. The association is presided over by a Patron. The current patron is Professor Clement K. Dzidonu.

Additionally, the association has seven executives who presides over different functions of the association. The executive members are elected annually by an electoral process conducted by the association's electoral council and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ghana.
