Academy of Learning College

History

In 1987, the first Academy of Learning Career College location opened in Thornhill, Ontario, and expanded west to British Columbia in 1990.[2] Today, campuses can be found across Canada in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia.[1][2] Unlike many other private career colleges, Academy of Learning Career College is national.[3] Academy of Learning Career College is dedicated in identifying the gap between the formal education available and the realities of the working world and fulfilling the needs of learners by developing customized programs for each student, while meeting the requirements for convenient and effective training at an affordable cost.[4]

In today’s business world, where quality training is not only important but essential to career success, Academy of Learning Career College stands out as a training provider relied on by students, employers and government agencies. Students can choose from over 30 diploma and certificate programs offered at Academy of Learning College.

Academics

Academy of Learning Career College offers more than 30 registered diploma and certificate programs that are delivered through its campuses as well as various e-learning systems such as video and audio lectures, simulated labs and virtual classrooms.[2] The programs are offered in various areas such as Business, Law, Information Technology and Healthcare[3] and provide vocational training to Canadians regardless of physical location.[5] In 2013 the college announced its new Community Service Worker diploma program.[5]

AOLCC's Award-Winning Quality

The Consumer Choice Award™ is considered a seal of excellence. For recipients the award not only constitutes the crowning achievement of their efforts, but more importantly it also represents the most valuable reward of all, the knowledge that they have earned the trust and loyalty of consumers. Academy of Learning Career College is extremely proud of each college that has received a Consumers’ Choice Award as it represents the hard work, commitment and dedication to students of each team member of the college. Campuses in Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto and Winnipeg are recipients of this great honour.

All Academy of Learning Career College campuses are registered with their respective governing Provincial Authority. Many colleges are members of their Provincial Private School Associations and members of the National Association of Career Colleges.

Methods Of Learning

Integrated Learning™ System (ILS)

Course materials and instructions provide an all encompassing learning experience using multi-sensory learning styles and preferences through student workbooks, media presentations, and hands-on exercises. These learning styles are supported by an on-site qualified college facilitator. This learning style also applies to Academy of Learning College’s Online ILS Hybrid courses.

Virtual Learning

Academy of Learning College has turned the page by applying technology in a whole new style of learning. Students will have the opportunity of learning and participating in a virtual classroom. Courseware and lessons are delivered utilizing textbooks, software, and online digital media, in addition to a live lecture every day. With the click of a button, students enter the Virtual Classroom where their Instructor is waiting to deliver a live lesson and answer questions in real time.

Instructor-Led

Lesson content is delivered to students in a live lecture format. These courses follow the traditional delivery of content by an instructor, based on daily standardized lesson plans that consist of approved curriculum. When using this method of delivery, the instructor presents lessons on the course topics; administers quizzes, tests, assignments, and exams; monitors student progress and attendance; and addresses students’ questions, issues, and concerns.

Online Learning Supported By A Qualified College Facilitator Or Online Instructor

Students complete course materials presented within a comprehensive online system. This system incorporates online lectures that combine with access to instructional materials, simulated labs, exercises, as well as quizzes, review questions, or pre- and post-tests. In this delivery method, students are supported by a qualified online instructor or an on-site qualified college facilitator

Learning Supported By A Qualified Off-Site Instructor

Students are provided with course content that includes all of the required courseware, and are supported by a live technical instructor during regular business hours. Students have access to an instructor via e-mail outside of regular business hours.[6]
