Abdul Salam (Taliban governor)

Mullah Abdul Salam or Abdul Salam Hanafi Ali Mardan Qul Mullah Abdul Salaam Baryali (born 1968)[1] is an ethnic Pashtun Taliban leader and was Taliban's "Shadow Governor" for Kunduz. He was captured an arrested in Faisalabad, Pakistan around February 2010.[2][3][4][5] He was set free in a negotiated prisoner release between the Afghan High Peace Council and the Pakistani government in 2013. He is said to be the Taliban's chief commander for northern Afghanistan.

In October 2016, he is alleged to be killed during clashes with the Afghan security forces in northern Kunduz Province, Afghanistan. According to the security officials, Mullah was initially injured during clashes with the Afghan forces and succumbed to his injuries after he was taken to the hospital in Char Dara District. The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.[6]
