A Storm in the Stars is an upcoming Irish-American romance film directed by Haifaa al-Mansour and written by Emma Jensen and Conor McPherson. It is about writer Mary Shelley's first love and romantic relationship with poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, which inspired Mary to write Frankenstein. The film stars Elle Fanning, Douglas Booth, Bel Powley, and Ben Hardy.

A Storm In The Stars is based on an original screenplay by Australian screenwriter Emma Jensen. Jensen received development funding from Screen NSW and Screen Australia to develop the screenplay to 1st Draft and her US agents, United Talent Agency, sold the screenplay to US producer Amy Baer.[1] On February 28, 2014, Wadjda's director Haifaa al-Mansour was set to direct an historical romance film A Storm in the Stars based on the script by Emma Jensen, which Gidden Media's Amy Baer would produce.[2] The film is about the true story of writer Mary Shelley's first love and romantic relationship with poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, which inspired Mary to write Frankenstein.[2] On July 30, 2014, Elle Fanning was cast in the film to play Mary Shelley.[3] The Diary of a Teenage Girl star Bel Powley joined the film on March 20, 2015, to play Claire Clairmont, Mary's stepsister, who complicates the relationship between both lovers.[4] On May 8, 2015, Douglas Booth was cast in the film to play the role of Percy, while HanWay Films was on board to produce the film and handle the film's international sales.[5] On February 19, 2016, Ben Hardy joined the film, which would be also produced by Alan Moloney and Ruth Coady of Parallel Films.[6] On March 2, 2016, Tom Sturridge, Maisie Williams, Stephen Dillane, and Joanne Froggatt joined the cast.[7]

Principal photography on the film began on February 20, 2016 in Dublin, Ireland.[8][9] On March 7, the production moved to Luxembourg.[10]
