The 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup will be the eighth edition of the Women's Rugby World Cup and will be held in Ireland in August 2017. The matches will be held in Dublin and Belfast.[1] The pool stages will be held at University College Dublin with the semi finals and finals being held at Queen's University Belfast and Kingspan Stadium in Belfast.[2]

The event will take place 3 years after the last Women's Rugby World Cup because World Rugby want to move away from clashing with other events.[3] The event will return to a four-year cycle after 2017[4] On 4 June 2015 it was announced that Garrett Tubridy has been appointed tournament director for the event.[5]

Bidding process

On 2 March 2015 it was announced that the Irish Rugby Football Union had submitted a bid to host to Women's Rugby World Cup in August 2017.[6] Ireland made the only bid to host the event. On 13 May 2015 it was announced that Ireland would host the event in Dublin and Belfast.[7]

Qualifying

Ireland, as the host nation, qualified automatically. The other top seven teams from the 2014 tournament (England, Canada, France, New Zealand, USA, Australia) also qualified automatically. Italy and Wales qualified as the top two teams across the 2015 and 2016 Women's Six Nations (outside of England, France, and Ireland). The remaining three qualifiers will be determined by the end of 2016.

Pool stage

The pool draw took place on 9 November 2016 at Belfast.[8]

Each pool is a single round-robin of six games, in which each team plays one match against each of the other teams in the same pool. Teams are awarded four points for a win, two points for a draw and none for a defeat. A team scoring four or more tries in one match will score a bonus point, as will a team that loses by seven points or fewer.
