Stats @ Basketball-Reference.com

The 2001-02 NBA season was the SuperSonics' 35th season in the NBA.[1] Heading into Nate McMillan's first full season as head coach, the Sonics finished fourth in the Pacific Division with a 45–37 record, which was only a one-game improvement over the previous season where they missed the playoffs. Gary Payton was selected for the 2002 NBA All-Star Game. However, their season would end quickly as they lost in five games in the first round of the playoffs to the San Antonio Spurs led by Tim Duncan, who was MVP following the season. This season was also Payton's final full season in Seattle, as he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks midway next season. Also following the season, Vin Baker was traded to the Boston Celtics.

The Sonics also changed their logo and uniforms, going back to their traditional colors of green and yellow. The logo and uniforms lasted until 2008.
