The Ecuadorian national team played eighteen matches in 1993: eight World Cup qualifiers, six at the Copa América, and four friendlies. Montemegrin manager Dušan Drašković resigned from his post this year after the team after failing to qualify to the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

Qualification to the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States took place in 1993. Ecuador was placed into Group B with Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, and Venezuela. They finished in 4th place and failed to qualify to the global tournament.
