- 13 February – Scottish Television begins 24-hour broadcasting.
- 19 July – Debut of the STV produced game show Wheel of Fortune.
- Unknown – Transmission of Tony Roger's The Steamie, about life in a Glasgow wash-house during the 1950s, starring Dorothy Paul and Eileen McCallum.[1]
- Unknown – An edition of Taggart entitled Violent Delights is watched by more than 18 million viewers, the highest audience for the series.[1]
